Time to put your math skills to the test
How are your math skills? Time to put it to the test! In this article you can see a math problem, waiting for you to be solved.
Answer:
When doing a math equation without parenthesis, the order of operations is:
- Exponents
- Multiplication(/Division)
- Addition(/Subtraction)
The first step here is 7/7=1 and 7X7=49.
The second step 7+1+49-7=50
So the answer to this question should be C (50).
For those who got it correct, congratulations, you understand "rules of operations." For the rest, hopefully, this was educational!
A quick tip for the Order of Operations: BODMAS
Below you can find a detailed BODMAS explanation.
B Brackets first
O Orders (powers and square roots, etc.)
DM Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)
AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)
Divide and multiply rank equally (and go left to right). Add and subtract rank equally (and go left to right).
Example: 3 + 6 × 2
Multiplication before addition:
First 6 × 2 = 12, then 3 + 12 = 15.
Example: (3 + 6) × 2
Brackets first:
First (3 + 6) = 9, then 9 × 2 = 18.
Example: 12: 6 × 3: 2
Multiplication and division rank equally, so just go left to right:
First 12 / 6 = 2, then 2 × 3 = 6, then 6 / 2 = 3
Time to put it to the test:
If you follow the BODMAS technique you will find that the answer is C (20).
Use the BODMAS technique and you will never go wrong!
